2012-14 Programme Information Seminars
To find out more about the course, you can attend a FREE information seminar in Cardiff, that will describe the course philosophy, aims, structure, syllabus and general operation. It will also enable you to ask questions and generally work out if the course is right for you. Information Seminars start in February 2012 and take place on a regular basis right up to the summer. They normally take place in the morning, starting at 10.30 am and conclude with a buffet lunch. For a list of dates, please see the LERC Events page.

Fees
The 2012-13 programme fee is £8,125 for year 1. Fees are reviewed annually and an increase for year 2 is likely. Fees are payable at the start of each academic year (ie end of September).
Included in the fees are all tuition, course handout material and a selection of course texts. Travel and accommodation costs are not included. Given that most modules take place at locations throught the UK (and sometimes mainland Europe) students need to factor in the costs of hotel accommodation and travel for each module week.
Where admission is subject to the completion of certain prerequisites, the student is responsible for covering all the associated expenses.
A £500 non-refundable deposit may be required on the acceptance of an offer.
Financial Support for Students
LERC or the University does not offer direct financial support for students, though individuals may be able to access support funding, depending on factors such as sector, business type or location. Different regions in the UK will have their own approaches to this and you are advised to undertake local research to identify any opportunities.
For example, Welsh based graduates working in SMEs may be able to take advantage of the GO Wales Graduate Training And Development Fund which could provide up to £1,500 towards the cost of the programme. For more information visit the Go Wales website
Location, Accommodation, Times
The first module of the MSc in Lean Operations takes place in Cardiff.
Most subsequent modules take place at student workplaces or at specially selected sites in the UK. Class tests are held at module locations, while dissertation presentation days are held at locations to be agreed with the students.
The first day of each module runs from 9.30 am - 5.00 pm. Subsequent days start at 9.00 am or earlier and finish at 6.00 pm. Four nights’ accommodation will need to be reserved at the student’s expense to cover the period of the first course. The Business School endeavours to arrange reasonable rates at local hotels.
Research and Information
Special arrangements have been made to allow participants to borrow books for longer terms from the Business School library than are available to Cardiff-based students.
Multiple copies of relevant texts are available. An extensive range of electronic information facilities is available from University Information Services, with the opportunity for remote access from any PC linked to the web. Note that an introduction to the use of library resources takes place during the first course.
Alumni
All those who complete the MSc in Lean Operations automatically join the LERC alumni network and receive regular communication about events that LERC organises throughout the year. These include presentations, seminars with leading academics and practitioners, site visits, as well as an annual LERC conference in Cardiff that focuses on innovations in lean thinking.
